The "Bikini line" refers to the exposed skin of female humans at the boundary of bikini style undergarments, both along the lower abdomen and between the legs. Women commonly shave or depilate their bikini line so that pubic hair does not protrude from their garment.
Some women suffer from pimples or "razor bumps" after shaving this area. Suggested solutions include lightly dusting with baby powder or the use of an acne cream, which thins the outer layer of skin (stratum corneum).
Bikini Waxing
Bikini waxing is a type of hair removal in the pubic region. A bikini wax involves the removal of pubic hair adjacent to the pantyline (or "bikini") area. This is a fairly common procedure in the United States. Because it can be painful, some estheticians suggest taking ibuprofen one hour before the wax.
Procedure
- You will need to take your pants/trousers off. If you are wearing a skirt, you can normally just lift this to your waist. As you are just removing the edges of your pubic hair, you can normally leave your underwear on.
- The person doing your bikini wax will tuck some paper inside the edge of your underwear to stop any wax getting on them.
- He/she will apply a layer of wax to the area. He/she will then place a wax strip on top, and rip it off quickly. He/she will repeat this procedure until he/she has removed all the hair from your bikini line area.
The procedure is similar to that for the more extreme Brazilian wax. Unlike the Brazilian wax, a bikini wax can be performed privately in the home, but it is generally more convenient to have a licensed cosmetologist or esthetician perform the procedure.
